Throughout these journeys, Bachmann captured his observations through small oil sketches, sketchbooks, and sketch sheets, which served as the essential foundations for his larger oil paintings.

Bachmann’s body of work is characterized by a focus on coastal landscapes, as well as depictions of moor and dune landscapes. While he worked in various media, his preferred artistic medium was pastel. His technical skill was recognized through numerous exhibitions, including regular displays at the Munich Glaspalast starting in 1887. His mastery of the medium was further evidenced by several prestigious acquisitions and awards, such as the Gold Medal at the Berlin Glaspalast and the Grand Golden Austrian State Medal for Art and Science.
