A Life in Color and Water
Raoul André Ulmann was a French painter born in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. A student of William Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury, his artistic focus centered on maritime scenes, including Breton and Dutch seascapes, as well as various views of Paris. His work captured the essence of the water, from the Seine to the coastal tides.
His career saw significant recognition through exhibitions with the Société nationale des beaux-arts starting in 1907, and with the Société nouvelle de peintres et de sculpteurs de Paris. His pieces were showcased in salons across Paris and the United States, including Buffalo. The French State acquired several of his works, which were placed in prestigious locations such as the musée du Luxembourg, the musée Bonnat de Bayonne, the Chambre de députés, and the palais de l’Élysée.
