Gao Qifeng (高奇峰), born Gao Weng (高嵡) in 1889, stands as a pivotal figure in the history of modern Chinese art. Alongside Chen Shuren and Gao Jianfu, he established the Lingnan School – a revolutionary movement that fused Eastern calligraphy and painting traditions with Western Impressionistic techniques.

  • Early Life & Education: Born in Guangdong Province, Gao Qifeng’s formative years were marked by exposure to both Confucian scholarship and burgeoning artistic experimentation. His formal training encompassed traditional Chinese brushwork alongside studies of European art styles, shaping his unique artistic vision.
  • The Lingnan School – A Synthesis of Styles: The Lingnan School emerged in Hong Kong during the early 20th century as a reaction against academic realism.
