Stories of abuse and harassment are shared daily on the internet and social media, redefining our processes of sedimentation and internalization of information whilstoffering a space to discuss and question our social and mental structures.Following Silvia Federici in the construction of capitalism in her book ‘Caliban and theWitch’ (2004) we discover how we have ended up confronting a system whoselinguistics, spatiality, bureaucracy and politics, undermine the condition of the other. The social body, bureaucratic organisms and our ways of behavior follow closely frombehind the frictions evidenced in the online space, demonstrating our lack of means toface and rebel against the violent foundations of our society.Contact emerges as an analysis of the influence that the internet and social networkshave over the configuration of our means of empathy and assimilation of violence.Using Matlab programming language, different testimonies of abuses shared online, images and texts, have been translated to obtain three RGB matrices adaptable to theaudible sound spectrum. The audios are disseminated in the gallery’s space through 3synchronized speakers, recreating a conversation of digital noises and questioning ourcommunicational in/ability and emotional literacy.

Lorena Bueno Larraz: A Visionary Sculptor Bridging Tradition and Innovation

Lorena Bueno Larraz, born in Spain, stands as a testament to the enduring power of artistic exploration rooted in deep cultural heritage while simultaneously embracing cutting-edge techniques. Her journey began with an early fascination for sculpture—a passion nurtured by exposure to the rich artistic traditions of her region and fueled by a desire to push creative boundaries. This dual influence informs her distinctive style, characterized by meticulous craftsmanship combined with experimental digital manipulation.
  • Early Influences: Bueno Larraz’s formative years were marked by immersion in Spanish folklore and mythology, shaping her understanding of narrative symbolism and visual storytelling. Artists like Eduardo Chillida and Julio González served as pivotal inspirations, demonstrating the transformative potential of abstract forms and textured surfaces.
  • Formal Training & Artistic Development: She pursued formal training at Escuela Superior de Diseño Cibeles Madrid, honing her skills in traditional sculpting methods alongside mastering computer-aided design (CAD) software—a strategic blend that allows her to realize ambitious artistic visions.
  • Notable Projects & Exhibitions: Bueno Larraz’s work has garnered international acclaim, appearing in prestigious galleries across Europe and showcasing her commitment to conveying complex ideas through evocative sculptural forms. Her participation in “Society of the Snow” (2023) and “3 Body Problem VFX” (2024) cemented her reputation as a leading figure in contemporary visual arts.
  • Technique & Aesthetic Philosophy: Bueno Larraz’s artistic process involves combining subtractive sculpting techniques with additive digital fabrication—a method that yields stunning results, capturing intricate details and exploring unconventional materials. Her aesthetic philosophy centers on confronting societal anxieties through art, questioning established norms and advocating for empathy and understanding.
  • Recent Achievements & Future Directions: Currently a member of the VFX team at El Ranchito Vfx, Bueno Larraz continues to innovate within the film industry, pushing the boundaries of artistic expression while upholding her dedication to social commentary. Her upcoming project “Feria: The Darkest Light” promises to further solidify her position as one of Spain’s most influential sculptors.

Exploring Themes of Memory and Transformation

Bueno Larraz's sculptures delve into profound explorations of memory, loss, and the process of metamorphosis—themes that resonate deeply with her artistic vision. Often employing textured surfaces and fragmented forms, she seeks to capture the ephemeral nature of experience and convey a sense of disorientation alongside beauty. Her work confronts viewers with uncomfortable truths about human vulnerability and resilience, prompting reflection on our relationship with time and place.
  • Symbolism & Narrative Structure: Recurring motifs—such as fractured mirrors and intertwined branches—represent the complexities of identity formation and the impact of external forces on personal narratives.
  • Material Exploration: Bueno Larraz experiments extensively with diverse materials—ranging from Carrara marble to recycled plastics—demonstrating her commitment to sustainability and challenging conventional sculptural practices.
  • Digital Manipulation & Artistic Enhancement: Utilizing advanced CAD programs, she meticulously crafts digital models that serve as blueprints for physical sculptures, enhancing their visual impact through subtle manipulations of color and texture.

Influences Beyond Sculpture: The Impact of Literature and Film

Bueno Larraz’s artistic sensibilities extend beyond the realm of sculpture—drawing inspiration from literature and film to enrich her creative process. Writers like Gabriel García Márquez and filmmakers such as Andrei Tarkovsky have profoundly shaped her understanding of storytelling, atmosphere, and psychological depth. These influences permeate her sculptures, fostering a contemplative spirit and inviting viewers to contemplate existential questions.
  • Narrative Resonance: Bueno Larraz’s sculptural compositions often evoke cinematic landscapes—capturing the grandeur and melancholy inherent in visual narratives.
  • Emotional Depth & Psychological Complexity: Like Tarkovsky's films, her sculptures strive to convey profound emotional resonance—challenging viewers to confront uncomfortable truths about human experience and fostering empathy for marginalized perspectives.

A Legacy of Innovation and Social Engagement

Lorena Bueno Larraz’s contribution to contemporary art transcends mere aesthetic beauty—representing a steadfast commitment to social engagement and artistic innovation. Her sculptures serve as powerful vehicles for conveying messages of compassion, resilience, and resistance against injustice—reflecting her belief in the transformative potential of art to inspire positive change within society.
