The Life and Art of Donald Mattison

After studying at Yale University, where he excelled as a draftsman and painter, he moved to Chicago in 1927 to serve as an assistant to the muralist Eugene Savage. Upon returning to the United States, Mattison took on various teaching roles, including positions at New York University, Columbia University, and the New York School of Design. In 1933, he began a long tenure at the John Herron Art School in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he eventually served as dean.
