His formal training continued with a Max Beckmann Memorial Scholarship for study at the Brooklyn Museum School in New York.
Winter's career is marked by significant teaching roles, including a tenure at Southern Methodist University's Meadows School of The Arts and a decade teaching at the Dallas Museum of Fine Art. His paintings have been acquired by various public collections, including the Dallas Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
