A Life of Artistic Pursuit
Vidosava Kovačević was a painter born in Belgrade, Kingdom of Serbia. She received her early drawing instruction from Rista Vukanović and later attended the School of Arts and Crafts in Belgrade, where she studied under several prominent figures including Marko Murat, Rista and Beta Vukanović, Dragutin Inkiostri Medenjak, and Đorđe Jovanović. Her education included courses in painting and drawing for teachers. In 1912, she traveled to Paris to continue her studies at the Rossi private art school and the Académie Julian, eventually applying to the School of Fine Arts.
Her artistic development moved through several stages, transitioning from realism to impressionism and eventually expressionism. Her early works, created between 1905 and 1910, featured drawings, watercolours, oils on canvas, and embroideries characterized by confident drawing and anatomical mastery. During her second phase, between 1911 and 1912, her palette became brighter with richer colour. Her most famous work is Head of a Girl (oil on canvas, 1912).
