The Life and Artistic Journey of Carl Jörres

Born in Bremen, Germany, Carl Jörres was a landscape painter who began his professional life working in his father's shop as a decorator. His passion for painting eventually led to a departure from his family's trade. He received formal training at the private art school of Moritz Heymann in Munich, where he studied under Hermann Groeber, and was also a student of Fritz Overbeck in Worpswede and Bröcken bei Schönebeck. Throughout his career, Jörres lived in various locations, including Leuchtenburg, Worpswede, and Oberende, and later maintained an atelier in Lilienthal near the Klosterkirche.

In addition to his personal practice, Jörres served as a soldier during the First World War and taught free perspective at the Staatliche Kunstgewerbeschule in Bremen in 1922. He was a member of several organizations, including the Bremer Künstlerbund and the Reichsverband Bildender Künstler Deutschlands. In 1927, he married the painter Henny Stolz, with whom he had a daughter, Felicia.
