      Artistic Beginnings and Education

Peter Tomschiczek was born in Jihlava, Czech Republic. His formal training began with an apprenticeship as a screen printer in Stuttgart from 1954 to 1957, followed by studies at the Art and Craft School in Würzburg between 1957 and 1958. He continued his academic development at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg from 1958 to 1963, where he studied under Fritz Griebel and guest lecturer Johannes Itten. Since 1963, he has worked as a freelance painter.

His teaching career includes roles as a lecturer at the Art Academy Bad Reichenhall from 2002 to the present, and at the Academy of Fine Arts at the Alte Spinnerei since 2014. He is a member of the Neue Münchener Künstlergenossenschaft and the Darmstädter Sezession.

      Style and Creative Process

Tomschiczek classifies his work within the framework of Classical Modernism, emphasizing the mastery of form, color, and composition. His creative impulses are primarily drawn from the experience of nature, including landscapes, the sea, animals, and plants. His subject matter has been inspired by the karst landscapes of the Croatian islands of Cres and Lošinj, as well as travels to West Africa, including Senegal, Gambia, and Burkina Faso.

His body of work includes various series such as Im Karst, Gatterweg, Macchiatisch, Bilder vom Meer, Senegambia, and Obervolta. While his early works—comprising landscape watercolors of the Mediterranean and still lifes—retained a clear connection to the subject matter, his later works tend toward abstraction. He often works with mixed media on canvas or paper, integrating materials like earth, sand, or feathers to create plastic structures and light effects. His graphic work includes lithographs, etchings, drawings, illustrations for children's books, and aquatinta.
