Born in Liège, Belgium, Alfred Hubert began his journey through the arts in an unexpected manner. Though his father had intended for him to pursue a career in law, Hubert's interest in drawing led him to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège. His path took a decisive turn when he enlisted as a soldier in the 3rd Artillery Regiment. It was through this military life that his artistic identity began to coalesce, transitioning from a skilled draftsperson and illustrator into a painter.
