Friedrich Eibner wasinterested primarily in architectural renditions. Beyond his Bavarian homeland,he also worked along the Rhine, in France, and in Northern Italy. On a trip toSpain in the entourage of Russian Prince Meshchersky, he produced numerousdrawings and watercolors, 65 of which the prince acquired and arranged toreproduce as a facsimile album. Later, from 1868 onward, Eibner also beganreceiving commissions from Bavarian King Ludwig II.Here Eibner shows anatmospheric, romantic scene. One of the most significant chapters of his life occurred during a journey to Spain in 1860–61, traveling in the entourage of Russian Prince Meshchersky. This expedition proved immensely fruitful for his legacy; Eibner produced a vast collection of drawings and watercolours, sixty-five of which were acquired by the Prince to be arranged into a magnificent facsimile album. This body of work remains a testament to his ability to translate foreign vistas into intimate, detailed records.
