In 1895, he authored the book „Vergessene und halbvergessene Dresdner Künstler des vorigen Jahrhunderts“. His professional life was deeply intertwined with the cultural institutions of his home city; he served as a drawing teacher at the royal cadet school in Dresden starting in 1865, and later held roles as an inspector and curator at the Königliche Gemäldegalerie in Dresden.
