Early Life and Artistic Training
Peter Daniš enters the world on February 15, 1983, in Zlaté Moravce, Slovakia. His early years lead him toward the technical foundations of visual expression in Bratislava. He begins his formal training at the School of Applied Arts of Jozef Vydra, a period that establishes the discipline required for his later explorations of light and atmosphere.
The trajectory of his development shifts toward the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. Between 2002 and 2008, he navigates the rigorous environment of the academy, focusing his energy on the medium of painting. It is here that he enters the studio of Ján Berger. Under Berger's guidance, Daniš refines his approach to the canvas, eventually completing his Master's studies in 2008. This academic period marks the transition from a student of form to a painter focused on the complexities of light and perception.
Technique and Artistic Style
Daniš works primarily in oil and acrylic, using these mediums to investigate the intersection of light and atmosphere. His practice centers on the perception of landscape, often stripping away specific topographical markers to focus on the way light interacts with the environment. He moves between various perspectives, ranging from aerial views and nightscapes to luminous abstractions. In many compositions, the landscape is reduced to its most essential elements: horizons, layers of mist, and distant, nebulous forms.
The trajectory of his style shows a clear evolution. Early explorations focused on urban nightscapes, capturing the specific glow of city environments. This focus has gradually shifted toward a more minimal approach. His current "lightscapes" and atmospheric landscapes prioritize the materialization of light itself. These works are not mere depictions of specific locations but are interpretations of reality shaped by visual experience. They exist as fragments of a seen world, often leaning into abstraction to capture transient, ephemeral moments.
His process involves returning to specific painting cycles, treating them as ongoing investigations rather than finished subjects. This repetition allows him to explore the same themes of light and space through different intensities and levels of abstraction. The resulting works invite a slower, more contemplative engagement with the canvas, where the boundaries between solid structure and ethereal light become blurred.
Exhibitions and Recognition
The trajectory of Daniš’s career moves from the urban nightscapes of his early exhibitions to international recognition. In 2010, the Frufru Gallery in Bratislava hosted Nightscape, establishing a focus on nocturnal environments. This period of exploration continued through 2015 with the Landscape exhibition at Gallery Rent Art in Bratislava. By 2017, the focus shifted toward the atmospheric with Lightscapes at the Kysuce Gallery in Oščadnica.
A significant shift occurs in the 2020s. In 2022, the exhibition (IN)VISIBLE took place at Pálffy Palace in Bratislava. This momentum led to a major milestone in 2024, when Daniš was selected as a finalist for the BBA Artist Prize. This recognition brought his work to Kühlhaus Berlin, marking a notable presence in the international exhibition circuit. That same year, the Záhorie Gallery of J. Mudroch in Senica hosted Ephemeral, featuring a selection of oil and acrylic works from the preceding two years.

Key Works and Collections
The Kysuce Gallery in Oščadnica holds significant pieces from his earlier development, including Plane and Translucence. These works represent a period of focused exploration within the gallery's collection. His practice continues to evolve through recent compositions that capture fleeting environmental states. In 2024, he produced Coastline, a work that anchors his ongoing investigation into the intersection of land and light.
The momentum of his recent output is evident in a series of works from 2025. These include Sunset, Misty Islands, Luminous Horizon, and Ethereal River. Each piece functions as a specific study of atmosphere, moving away from concrete geography toward a more distilled perception of light and space. These paintings exist as fragments of interpreted reality, offering a visual language of horizons and mist.
