A Life in Paris

Born in Paris in 1823, Édouard-Aimé Pils grew up in a household where art was a constant presence. He was the son of François Pils and Suzanne Soudais, who served as staff for the Marshal Oudinot, the Duke of Reggio. This upbringing placed him in the heart of French artistic circles from a young age. His brother, Isidore, also followed a path in painting, suggesting a family deeply rooted in the visual arts of the era.

His formal training took place under the guidance of François Édouard Picot. This mentorship helped shape his technical foundation as he developed his skills. He eventually made his home in the Montmartre district, specifically in the Place de la Barrière. His life in the city was cut short when he died in Paris in 1850. He was laid to rest in the Père-Lachaise cemetery.
