The Life and Career of Félix Borrell Vidal

Félix Borrell Vidal lived a life shaped by the quiet observations of a Madrid native. Born in Madrid in 1858, he moved through the city's professional circles in ways that extended far beyond the canvas. While many recognize him as a landscape painter, his daily reality involved the precise work of a pharmacist. He also spent time as a music critic, listening to the sounds of the city while maintaining a steady hand for his other pursuits. He was known by several names, including Felix Borrell Vidal, Feliu Borrell Vidal, Félix Borrell y Vidal, and Félix Borrell.

His focus remained largely on the natural world. He captured the light and terrain of the Spanish landscape, finding his subject matter in the quiet corners of the countryside. This interest in the land was a constant throughout his years in Madrid. He continued this practice until his death in Madrid in 1926. His work reflects a man who spent his time watching the way light settles on a valley or how the shadows move across a familiar horizon.

Key Works and Collections

The Museo del Prado in Madrid holds a piece by Borrell Vidal. This work, which remains untitled in the museum's records, is the primary example of his presence in that collection. It sits among the Spanish landscape works held in Madrid, representing a specific moment in his output as a painter of the natural world.

In 1901, he produced a work titled Paisaje del Escorial. This painting captures a specific view of the Escorial landscape. His focus on these settings shows a steady interest in the topography of the Spanish countryside. The brushwork in such landscapes reflects a quiet observation of light and terrain.
